Saugatuck Wedding Venues: A Florist’s Guide
Saugatuck has a way of making every wedding feel like a getaway!! The dunes, the Kalamazoo River winding out to Lake Michigan, the galleries and little shops downtown…it's one of my favorite places on the lakeshore to design flowers. If you're planning a Saugatuck wedding and trying to picture what your florals could look like, here are the venues I love and how I think about flowers in each one.
The Ivy House
If you've followed along with me for a while, you already know how I feel about the Ivy House! It's a greenhouse event space set on more than seven acres just outside downtown Saugatuck, and the light in there is unreal. Glass walls, open sky, pine trees all around. Because the room is basically made of daylight, I love designing pieces that hang and float: suspended installations over the ceremony, garden roses and trailing greenery that catch the light from every angle. Blush, peach, and soft white glow in that greenhouse, and in the fall I love leaning into warmer tones that echo the trees outside. It's a space where the flowers get to feel like they're still growing.
Belvedere Estate & Gardens
Belvedere is old-world romance in the middle of the Michigan pines! The 1912 villa sits behind a tiered stone fountain, surrounded by manicured Italian gardens, and walking those grounds honestly feels like being somewhere in the European countryside. Weddings here are a full weekend, which means flowers can follow you from the welcome dinner to the ceremony to the very last morning. I'd design with the gardens rather than against them: urns overflowing with garden roses and soft greenery along the paths, then something a little more grand and lush for the tables inside the Great Room.
The Felt Estate
Just north of Saugatuck in Laketown Township, the Felt Estate is a 1928 mansion with a limestone portico, sunny solarium, and a ballroom tucked up on the third floor. Spaces with this much character don't need a lot of extra decoration, so I'd keep things airy and intentional: branching, garden-style arrangements that feel like they were clipped from the grounds that morning, and soft color that lets the historic details shine. Think less “fill every corner” and more “one perfect arrangement in the window light.”
Saugatuck Center for the Arts
A former pie factory turned art center, right in the heart of downtown Saugatuck! I love venues with a story, and this one has a covered pavilion, a rain garden, and a gallery that makes the whole space feel creative and a little unexpected. It's the perfect setting for couples who want their flowers to feel like art: bold color, interesting textures, and arrangements with some movement to them. Rich dahlias in the fall would look incredible against the industrial lines and garden greenery here.
The Cottage at Ravines
Tucked into the woods at Ravines Golf Club, the Cottage feels cozy and relaxed in the best way. The ceremony site sits among the trees (there's even a little wooden footbridge!), and the reception room has walls of windows looking out over the course. For a setting this green and natural, I'd dress the ceremony arbor with lush, garden-style florals and keep the tables loose and abundant, with candles and seasonal blooms that make the space feel warm once the sun goes down.
BONUS! A Saugatuck Tip: Getting Married by the Water
So many couples picture saying “I do” at Oval Beach, but heads up: the City of Saugatuck doesn't allow wedding ceremonies there. The good news is that the city does rent out the gazebo at Coghlin Park for ceremonies, which is such a sweet option for a small, simple wedding. For outdoor spots like this, I keep the florals light and wind-friendly: a bouquet with some movement, a couple of grounded arrangements, and nothing that will tip over in a lake breeze.
Planning in Holland instead? I've also written about my favorite Holland, MI wedding venues and how I design for them.
No matter where you say “I do,” I believe your wedding flowers should feel like they came out of the earth, right here, right now, for you. If you're looking for a Saugatuck wedding florist who designs with the season and the setting in mind, I'd love to help bring your day to life.
